Sharing how to create a festive holiday look with a velvet dress and a shawl. The Christmas season is officially upon us, and I couldn’t wait to break out an outfit that’s festive, elegant, and irresistibly cozy. This velvet tank dress paired with a faux-fur–trimmed shawl is one of my favorite combinations this year.

Velvet and Faux Fur Festive Chic

Let’s start with the dress. This stunning emerald velvet number was a sidewalk-sale steal from Vintage Charm for only $13. Yes, you read that right! I love when a hidden gem like this becomes a wardrobe hero. Velvet is already a holiday staple thanks to its rich texture and soft sheen, but the tank silhouette gives it a fresh, modern twist. It’s the perfect balance of glam and comfort.

To add warmth (and a little drama), I layered on this beautiful faux-fur–trimmed shawl from Heidi Kagan Designs. Heidi gifted me this piece two years ago when I shared it on the blog. It has been a winter favorite ever since. The plush trim instantly elevates any outfit, and it drapes so beautifully. I love how it transforms this simple velvet dress into something truly party-ready. And it also keeps me warm!

Holiday dressing is all about texture, and this look delivers it from every angle. The velvet brings depth, the faux fur adds softness and luxe contrast, and the sparkle comes from my layered beaded necklace, which catches the light just enough for a festive glow. To finish the look, I chose sheer dot tights—a playful touch that keeps things fun—and my sleek knee-high sock boots, which elongate the leg and ground the outfit in chic sophistication. Here’s to velvet, faux fur, sparkle, and the joy of getting dressed up this holiday season!
